Six Minus One

Yesterday, one of my classmate (Chris) was doing a persuasive presentation : to persuade the audience on buying a Mac instead of Windows. From the start, I knew it would not be a good presentation because brands are a little sensitive to talk of, especially brands owned by hella big companies. But anyway, was I persuaded? As he went further on his presentation, I was not persuaded to get a Mac, but I was more persuaded to look at other options- that is, open-source computing. Hehe. That's another story.

I think for the most part, the main reason why Macs don't get popular that quick in Malaysia is that it's expensive to own one. It's the same reason why original DVDs worth RM50+ are lacking attention among the locals. To me, for an ordinary person who comes from a mid-income family, Macbooks just don't seem worthy of my money. Another classmate asked Chris the price of the Macbook Pro that he used for the presentation, and he said it costed him RM7000 plus. It was nothing new to me, but I can see some flabbergasted faces in the crowd. I think for most Malaysians, RM7000 is very expensive for a computer.

Nowadays, the battle between the operating systems isn't as loud as it used to be. I think it's not significant anymore which OS is powerful. Surely, vulnerabilities are always a concern (especially with Windows ehem!), but if your computer gets infected the most you can do is reformat your system, provided that the virus doesn't destroy your entire system that you can't start over. Today, the biggest player in the market is the almighty INTERNET. It is so powerful that people of all ages are adapting to it so easily. I think most people know how useful the internet can be, with its many applications blooming each day to add to the excitement of it. As long as you can access the internet, that's good enough, no? But sadly, not many people know what they really CAN do with the internet or what the internet can do to our nature as humans, thus the lack of appreciation. For me personally, I *almost* cannot live without the internet.

Anyway; back to my student life, yesterday my presentation wasn't so great but I didn't stumble to my words. Hehe. It was smooth, I wasn't so nervous and was completely relaxed throughout. I was relieved that everything's over and I am one subject less already! Oh yeah. Apart from that, I get to touch Chris's Macbook and sitting from the sides, I can see that the LCD is indeed very thin, which is quite impressive.

At the analogue test today, I didn't get to finish the last question and thus, there goes another hope. Boo-hoo!
